A
Handbook on Beads by W. G. N. van der Sleen
published by George Shumway. An introduction to the history of trade
beads. It touches on techniques for making glass beads, bead
terminology, bead classification, and then surveys what is known about
trade beads and their distribution. Published by York &
Pennsylvania. Since Dr van der Sleen’s dates are (1886-1967), I am
assuming the book was written circa 1967 or before. ISBN 0-87387-060-3
From the internet, I found: Allard Pierson Museum is the archaeological
museum of the University of Amsterdam and it houses the bead collection
of Dr. W.G. N. van der Sleen (1886-1967). This chemist was the first to
occupy himself with beads on a scientific level and published A
Handbook on Beads in 1967. His study-collection of approximately 20,000
beads has been donated to the University of Amsterdam and is kept in
the Allard Pierson Museum. The beads are arranged by origin and
regularly studied by scholars from all over the world.
