First Edition. Good condition for a 33 year-old soft covered book.  The author was Professor of History at St. Thomas University. The book traces the history of black settlement in the province of New Brunswick, looking at slavery, social conditions, accomplishments, and possibilities for the future. In 8vo., and 95 pages including a bibliography and appendices.
Appendix XIV 1844 - Petition of the committee managing the Black School in Saint John. Appendix XIII date 1841 - Black Inhabitants of Saint John describe the discrimination.
Appendix XII - Petition of Robert L. Saunders, school teacher at Loch Lomond requesting payment for teaching school in 1843.
Appendix XI - Petition of The Black Settlers at Loch Lomond in 1840 asking for assistance in establishing a school.
