GEORGE!” written in 1988 by George Russell of Truro,
Nova Scotia. George graduated from Stellarton High School in 1924 went
on to teach - went to Mount Allison University in 1928. Ordained in
1933. The author’s grandfather, Isaac Russell - was born at Coley’s
Point in 1849 and married Grace Dawe of the Ponds or Dawe’s Head on 19
Dec 1874 at Coley’s Point. His children - John George 1876-1905 killed
in British Columbia, Naomi 1879 - 1963 married Abram Richards, Lily
1881-1970 came to the mainland and married Herbert Cowan and lived in
Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada - The author officiated at her
funeral. Allan 1885-1975 was a soldier in World War I. William was only
three years old when his mother died and was brought up by a Snow
family. He came to Stellarton, Nova Scotia and worked in the coal mines
- losing an arm. He returned to Newfoundland.
The author’s father James Russell 1883 - 1971 fished with his father on
the Labrador. He came to Sydney, Nova Scotia circa 1900.
