The Evil That Men Do  - Ten New Brunswick stories on justice and the application of the law, including the province's first and last hangings by B.J. Grant (1993). 98 pages 5 ½ x 9. Soft covered. -   Introduced with a tribute to Barry J. Grant, who died prior to the book's release. 

When the three rode from the field on a misty morning on October 21, 1821, they left a fourth murdered on a field at New Maryland, a settlement about four miles from Fredericton.

In 1803, John Coffin and Cpt. N. Foy fought it out with pistols at Fort Howe (Saint John), New Brunswick.

 Trouble began when an Indian killed a white man in 1784.

The people of Charlotte County didn't forget what they'd labeled the Pork Barrel Murder (1766) but as hope of finding John Dunbar, so did talk of his crime.

 Theft of a pair of boots in Saint John, gave M. Barlow a punishment of 40 lashes and one week in jail in 1821.

Of Irish descent Kerrigan settled on the Kingston Peninsula, Kings County and by 1850 poverty was driving him to violence.

Marguerite's story is almost as old as time: a young girl discovers she is going to be a mother and her infant's father will never be her husband.

Clara Whiteside lived in East Saint John when tragedy struck in 1923.

It was a dog barking in Pitre Lane that drew the boys.
