Out of Ireland - A Journey across time, ocean and land from pre-famine Ireland to Modern North America
In 1997, Carolyn Ryan, Mac Trueman, Mia Urquhart and Steve McKinley of the Saint John Times Globe traced how the flood of Irish immigrants during the Great Famine (1845-1852) changed the face of Ireland, North America and specifically, Saint John and New Brunswick. Their articles were printed in a seven-week series in the Saint John Times Globe of New Brunswick, Canada entitled "Out of Ireland." * Carolyn Ryan, wrote: "Nothing is more Irish than the leaving of Ireland. But since James Prendergrass was living in Famine Ireland and his children had sailed off to Saint John,(New Brunswick) and to Boston, his letters reveal to fascinated academics an unusual side of history  * * The Orange and the Green reach a truce. * An inglorious 12th - 1849 in Saint John * From Paupers to Powerbrokers - The road to political success for Boston’s Irish was paved with drinks, charm, alliances and tough tactics * Quebec’s Smile Is Irish * Sorrow, Sorrow, My Sorrow - One of the most notorious coffin ships of the Famine years dumped its human cargo near Miramichi * * TITLE: Out of Ireland - A Journey across time, ocean and land from pre-famine Ireland to Modern North America.
