|After salvaging old newspapers used as insulation in a friend's cottage, Suzanne Lisson compiled a list of 300 births, deaths, marriages, funerals, memoriams and obituaries. Ellen Purdy, above, was included in the obituaries.|
Mum never considered herself a pack rat. In her opinion she was simply saving things until they were needed. All glass jars were kept in the cellar for pickling and preserving time. Pieces of string were rolled up and put in a tin cannister. Brown paper bags were carefully folded for future use. Orange crates were stored away to be turned into a book case or bedside table at a later date.
When Suzanne Lisson salvaged some Telegraph Journal newspapers used for insulation in a friend's cottage, dated from November of 1927 to December of 1928 that were musty and mouse chewed, she recognized that some of the information should be saved as there was a need. She cut out and compiled a list of about three hundred Births, Deaths, Marriages, Funerals, Memoriams and Obituaries.
Some of the names discovered in the newspapers deaths were: BROMLEY, Eva wife of Albert E. of Montreal; COPELAND, Sarah widow of Charles, Saint John; GAULT, Eliza age 81, daughter of the late John and Catherine GAULT of Saint John; HABERFIELD, John, Lancaster (DVA); STACKHOUSE, Helen wife of Edwin C., Saint John.
Scroll down this page to find Suzanne's complete List at the end of the queries.
By the way, Suzanne has been doing genealogy in a serious manner for the past twenty five years. Some of her roots are royal in nature as she can trace her lineage to King Edward IV, William the Conquerer and Charlamagne. Born in New Zealand, her mother a Saint John native with Irish and Loyalist roots, she has done extensive research on New Brunswick families and willingly shares her information.
As Spring housecleaning time approaches, don't be too quick to discard old things as they could be a treasure to a genealogical researcher.
Craig - Kerr: John Craig married Elizabeth Kerr in 1848 in Charlotte County, who was born in 1826 in Dumbarton, the daughter of George and Isabelle Kerr. They had one child together, John Hugh Craig born in 1849. It appears that John Craig was probably dead before his son was born. All that is known about him is that he was a mariner. Does anyone have any information on this family?
-Gregory Craig, P.O. Box 767, Greenwood, N.S., B0P 1N0. E-mail to email@example.com.
Atkinson: Christopher Atkinson was the father of William Atkinson, born on Sep. 22, 1812 in Sackville or Saint John. If anyone has any information on the Atkinson family, I'd sure appreciate it.

McGuire - Bowes - May - Brennan: The McGuire sisters of the Boston area are seeking information or getting in contact with the descendants of their Great-grandparents Owen McGuire and Isabella Bowes of Golden Grove, Saint John County. From this marriage, there were 13 children and by a previous marriage to Catherine Doolin, Owen had twin daughters. Their grandfather, Thomas McGuire was born in 1857 and married Mary E. May of PEI. Her mother was Mary Brennan of Golden Grove (name of parents unknown). Thomas and Mary's oldest son, Louis LeBaron McGuire was born in Golden Grove in 1889 and the other two children, Mae / Mary (Bamberger) and Frederick Oliver McGuire were born in New York. Thomas McGuire died in Saint John in 1940. Any help on this family would be most appreciated.

Plummer: Sylvanus Plummer was born in1750 in Newbury, MA. He went to Maugerville, Sunbury County in the 1760s. He may possibly have been in company with a J. Barker. Upon his death in 1807, he left 100 pounds - stating the interest was to be used to educate the poor. He also left property in Newbury. I am seeking information on his entry into the province and any other details of his life.

Westlotorn - Harrison - Coleman - Younghusband - Debaun: George Westlotorn was born in Teignmouth, Devon, UK in 1787. I have backtracked on present USA line back to New Brunswick. Family members who I have found are: Margaret married in 1849 to Thomas Harrison; Mary Medland married in 1844 to James Coleman; William was born in 1816 and died in 1880. On Oct. 28, 1852, he married Mary Thompson Younghusband; and John Sayre married Mary Elizabeth Debaun and had 10 children

Erb - Cosman - Wiley - Whelpley: Andrew Warren Erb was born in 1829 in Kingston and he was married on Aug.12, 1851 to Frances Golding Cosman. Their son, Thomas Vanwart Erb was born on Feb. 24, 1868 in Kingston and was married on Dec. 24, 1890 to Annie Mary Wiley - the daughter of Henry Wiley and Charlotte J. Whelpley. Who are the parents of Andrew Warren Erb? Why does Thomas have the middle name Vanwart? Does anyone have any information on Henry Wiley? I am missing a birth, marriage date, and also a death date?
